Production records and glossary
Use 9Miho's canonical terms consistently when discussing identity, revisions, creative intent, execution, Takes, and edit decisions.
Identity and revisions
| Term | Meaning in 9Miho |
|---|---|
| Project | The creative boundary that groups story, assets, Flows, outputs, and production work. |
| Space | A working namespace inside a Project. Canvas Flows and production assets resolve within a selected Space. |
| Item | The stable identity of something over time. A character sheet, source image, video Take, Direction, or saved cut can remain the same Item while gaining Revisions. |
| Revision | One immutable state of an Item. r4 is not “the file after r3 was deleted”; both can remain addressable. |
| Artifact | The stored payload associated with a Revision, such as image, video, audio, text, Direction JSON, or OTIO. |
| Kref | A Kumiho reference that identifies an Item or a pinned Revision. Production inputs use pinned Revision Krefs when exact repeatability matters. |
| Asset | A reusable production input or output with stable identity, Revisions, metadata, and provenance. It is not defined only by its filename. |
An Asset’s newest Revision is not automatically its best or approved Revision. Canvas can intentionally follow latest, but a pinned rN is the safer production reference when continuity or reproducibility matters.
Creative and execution records
| Term | Meaning in 9Miho |
|---|---|
| Flow | A saved Canvas graph: nodes, typed connections, positions, and declared configuration. |
| Capability | A unit of work exposed by the catalog, such as image generation, reference-to-video, speech, music, analysis, or Direction authoring. |
| Variant | The exact executable contract for a capability: operation, ports, settings, provider/runtime requirements, and cost information. Selecting a Variant can change the real node interface. |
| Direction | A validated, provider-neutral creative document describing what the media should be: entities, staging, performance, camera, light, sound, continuity, and constraints. |
| Dialect | The manifest-selected compiler that expresses a Direction in the language expected by one consuming model capability. It is chosen by the consuming Variant, not by rewriting the Direction. |
| Run | One materialized execution of a Flow or hidden Storyteller generation graph, including steps, status, spend boundary, and outputs. |
| Take | One generated output candidate registered as an Asset with provenance. A supported operation can return several Takes, each with its own identity. |
| Lineage | The graph of exact sources and dependents connecting inputs, Revisions, Direction, Run, and outputs. |
Direction is not a handwritten prompt
A Direction and a normal prompt are two different authoring paths. A consuming node accepts the one its contract declares. If both are supplied where no merge rule exists, preflight refuses the ambiguous job instead of guessing.
One Direction normally feeds one consuming generation. shots[] inside that Direction describe camera cuts within one Take. Canvas can deliberately author a sequence of 2–8 separate Directions, but those are separate downstream calls and cost boundaries—not a hidden interpretation of shots[] as a batch.
Variant is not a brand badge
A Variant is more specific than a model family name. It determines the exact ports, reference capacity, controls, operation, and execution requirements. 9Miho exposes unavailable or incompatible states instead of silently replacing the selected model with another one.
Storyteller records
| Term | Meaning in Storyteller |
|---|---|
| Draft | The locally protected working document. Navigation and selection do not mutate it; accepted proposals and direct edits do. |
| Proposal | A reviewable set of structured operations returned by an agent. It can be accepted, edited, or rejected; it cannot approve itself. |
| Canon | The creator-approved story document pinned to an exact Revision and projected into versioned story records. |
| Story Promise | The compact promise of what the story repeatedly delivers: premise, dramatic engine, audience expectation, and scope. |
| Moment | The smallest causal production unit in which an objective, conflict, action, outcome, or state genuinely changes. |
| State Delta | An authored before/after change in a character’s physical, psychological, knowledge, or relationship state, tied to the event that caused it. |
| HOW | The filmable expression of approved WHAT/WHY: performer actions, blocking, camera, shots, light, sound, dialogue, and continuity. |
| OutputRef | Storyteller’s pinned reference to an approved generated result, including purpose, medium, source Canon, and freshness. |
Changing Canon does not erase media made from an older Canon. The older OutputRef becomes stale when its production contract no longer matches current approved story truth; the creator chooses whether to keep it pinned, rebase, or regenerate.
Canvas interface terms
| Term | Meaning in Canvas |
|---|---|
| Agent | The embedded side panel that can inspect and propose edits to the Flow. It cannot authorize paid execution. |
| Assistant node | An executable graph node for a task such as image analysis or Write a direction. It is distinct from the Agent panel. |
| Asset node | A graph input bound to an Asset, either following latest or pinned to a Revision. |
| Viewer | A non-generating node that displays bound media or text. |
| Library | The durable Asset and Revision browser. |
| History | The generation/run-oriented browser used to find outputs and their producing Runs. |
| Template | A named browser-local snapshot of the current Canvas. It is not a cloud/team template. |
Cutting Room terms
| Term | Meaning in Cutting Room |
|---|---|
| Bin | The working collection of video and audio Assets available to the current cut. Choosing another Take Revision changes the Bin pin, not clips already placed. |
| Clip | One Timeline placement with its own source pin, in/out range, track, and colour decision. |
| Cut | The editable Timeline document. Saving again creates another Revision of the same cut Item. |
| Movie Export | A flattened render using the topmost picture and current monitored audio mix. |
| OTIO handoff | A conform package that preserves the multi-track Timeline, copied pinned media, manifest, and optional colour sidecars. |
The browser viewer is explicitly an 8-bit preview, not a 10-bit reference monitor. Inspection scopes and colour controls help make decisions; they are not a complete automated QC system.
Approval, freshness, and reuse
- Approve means reuse this exact completed output as the selected production result. It does not generate again.
- Force rerun requests new work and therefore creates a new execution and cost boundary.
- Fresh means the output still matches its approved source contract.
- Stale means upstream Canon, Direction, or references changed. Stale media remains visible and addressable.
- Unpriced means the catalog has no price estimate for that line. It does not mean free.
These distinctions keep production decisions explicit: identity is stable, Revisions are immutable, execution is recorded, and older work is not silently rewritten.
